Perhaps It Just Isn’t You
Perhaps you’re not the one.
Perhaps you’re destined to be a number instead of a name,
Perhaps you’re meant to watch instead of living.
Perhaps you’re supposed to tell yourself you’re trying.
But let’s be honest — it’s not working, is it?
Maybe that’s because you’re just not cut out for it, right?
The universe already decided for you, didn’t it?
You’re the guy who watches the supercars tear by,
while living like a sad, helpless, impotent slob.
The guy who sees the parties but never gets an invite,
The guy who sticks with the “average” girls,
because the supermodels don’t waste their time on nobodies like you.
Maybe some people deserve the best.
And you?
You don’t.
Right?
Is that what you believe deep in your soul?
You’re here to witness it all,
while you scroll through your phone,
pretending your life isn’t a bloated highlight reel of missed chances.
That it’s your destiny —
to sit on your saggy little air mattress,
while others ride jetskis and live like kings.
To go to clubs where you’re background noise,
while the real players sip champagne upstairs
in VIP lounges you’ll never see.
Maybe your ancestors died for this —
for you to waste your only shot
stuck in the slow lane,
while the deserving blast past you
in blacked-out Lambos that shake the ground.
You’ll keep letting that happen, won’t you?
Ah, I almost forgot…
You can’t change it… it’s just Fate isn’t it?
But hey, keep sleeping well.
Numb the pain with whatever cheap thrills you can grab —
the flicker of a screen,
the bite of a frozen pizza,
or another lonely night scrolling through “what ifs.”
Because it’s all Fate that you have no control over, right?
The universe’s grand plan that you’re broke, invisible, weak, unimportant.
Destined to be miserable by Fate. Right?
You got unlucky. Didn’t you?
And meanwhile, some other guy is destined to live the dream you can’t have —
$5 million car, blonde on his arm, music blasting at dawn
on another one of his average Tuesdays.
Because he’s different from you, right?
Better perhaps?
Is that what you’ve been telling yourself?
While flipping burgers
in the back of some fast food joint,
wondering why life’s so unfair?
And maybe you’re right.
Maybe it really is all Fate.
Maybe you’re just supposed to stay exactly where you are.
And honestly?
Maybe that’s all you deserve.
